How to Put it Together

f you are looking for a superior and professional job with concrete placement and finishing I suggest you go to the pros. The old saying is ‘you can’t beat a tradesman at his work’. The photo on the left shows the float work after the 3500 psi concrete has partially set. Approximately (12)  hours after placement its durable enough that you can get onto it and begin the final finishing process.  The concrete was covered to retain moisture in the mix during the curing process. This visqueen was saved and later used on the end of the existing structure as shown below. Notice the 3” sewer vents and the corner tub drain.  This is a concrete float the contractor is using to refine and smooth the surface of the slab. The end result is a wonderful smooth floor surface suitable for a shop, laundry, and sewing center.

Other aspects of importance are the exterior wall anchor bolts. All of this must be carefully measured and placed according to the wall orientation in the engineered plan.

Even with careful planning I still had to place more anchor bolts after erecting the walls. This was done using a ½”rotary concrete impact drill and boring into the curing concrete -through and under the wall sills- (24) locations. Once this was completed the holes were sucked free of concrete and wood particulate. I used structural grade epoxy resin, injecting the mix into the holes. Next I placed ½ inch all thread studs into the holes. The set took about 24 hours to cure. These additional anchor bolts insure the walls do not leave the slab during high Kansas winds.  The resin installed bolts actually have a greater hold strength than the bolts placed in the slab during placement.

On the left you will observe the open end of the existing post and beam building. It is covered with 6 mil. plastic sheeting to keep out particulate from our living quarters during construction. The extension slab and the sidewalks are now completed and ready for the next step.
